Israeli Jewish couple charged with killing the 4 year old Rose Pizem
Roni Ron, 45, and Marie-Charlotte Renault, 23, appeared at a Tel Aviv court before being remanded in custody for the murder of Rose Pizem, whose body was recovered by divers during a search of the Yarkon River.
The case riveted the Jewish state for weeks, drawing comparisons with the Madeleine McCann disappearance, before a body was recovered from the river by police. DNA analysis confirmed the child was Rose.
State prosecutors said they have enough evidence to implicate Mr Ron and Ms Renault in the killing of the child.
The child was born to Ms Renault when she was married to Mr Ron's son, Benjamin, but she left Benjamin to set up home with his father.
The state's indictment Monday said the two decided to get rid of Rose because they did not want to raise her. The couple had two of their own children.
It says together they decided to "cause Rose's death" and that one or both of them killed her.
Mr Ron initially told police he had accidentally killed the little girl after losing his temper with her as he drove her near her home in Netanya.
He claimed to have panicked, throwing her body into the river.
Rose was born in Paris in 2004 to Ms Renault, a French Jew with relatives in Israel, and Benjamin Pizem.
