My condolences certainly go to the family of John and Kelly Travolta in the loss of their son, Jett. How tragic to lose a child at any age.
I was unfamilar with Kawasaki Disease and wanted to share the information I learned. Even with my many years in the nursing profession, I had not heard of Kawasaki Disease.
Kawasaki Disease is an unusual disorder that is not easily diagnosed. It is usually diagnosed by the process of elimination. It is a disease that primarily affects young children and is characterized by inflammation of the blood vessels throughout the body. It can also result in aneurysms which is a balooning of the vessels and can be very life threatening.
Early symptoms include: fever that lasts for several days to 2 weeks, rash, often worse in the groin area, red eyes, without drainage or crusting, red, swollen, or cracked lips, a "strawberry tongue", which appears with bright red dots after the top coating of the tonuge sloughs off. The child may present with swollen hands and feet, have reddness of the soles of their feet and of the palms of their hands, and have swollen lymph nodes.
If you know of a child with these symptoms, they should recieve medical treatment and testing immediately.
